The mini guide to Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

HISTORY

Grand Prix Abu Dhabi

Formula 1 race came to Abu Dhabi in January 2007 as the 1st Formula One Festival. The race took place on 3 February 2007 and was free with the largest Formula One vehicles and drivers gathering outside of a Grand Prix. At the event it was announced that Abu Dhabi had won the rights to host the Grand Prix from 2009 until 2016, later 2016 Etihad Airways a had a three-year deal for them to become the official sponsors of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

It is expected that Yas Marina Circuit in 2021 will undergo numerous changes. The turn 5/6 chicane is expected to be eliminated and the turn 7 clip is expected to be enlarged. Turns 11 – 14 are expected to be supplanted by one banked bend and the span of turns 17-20 are expected to be expanded, to permit vehicles to go faster, and the change in turn 20 is due to allowing cars to pass straight through corners.

Yas Marina Circuit

Abu Dhabi

It was announced at Yas Marina Circuit that the track will be reconfigured in time to meet 2021 race- the season finale. The circuit, which opened in 2009 and held the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix the same year, will undergo significant alterations over the next few months, specifically in three areas: the north hairpin (Turn 7), the south marina (beginning at Turn 11), and the hotel section (beginning at Turn 17).

The redesign is expected to improve overtaking opportunities where Mercedes won multiple times in a row between 2014 and 2019, before Max Verstappen won the race for Red Bull at last year’s race.
